Monday, July 10th

I left Cousin Cyndi’s place early following a couple of false starts.  The elusive deer we’d been hoping to see all weekend made its appearance on the front lawn, seemingly to wish me farewell.

Travel across Pennsylvania was peppered with roadsigns at which I reminiscently exclaimed, “Hey! I know that place!”

I made my way through several tunnels, one of which, if I recall correctly, was the one we’d go through on our way to Grandma and Pappy Callen’s when we visited from New Jersey where I lived when I was nine and ten.   Next week, I'll return to PA when I stay a couple of days with Grammy's cousins, Diane, Linda, and Nancy in Hidden Valley (Somerset).

I picked up lunch at the gas station where i refueled… where else can you get Sweet Lebanon and Cream Cheese cups but in central PA??  :)

At the outset, I knew it would be a long drive (close to 450 miles) and, as dear Apple Maps was not talking to me again,  I missed a fairly critical exit from the turnpike; in response to my disobedience, DearAppleMaps "recalculated" and I continued (merrily and unwarily) along.

Unbeknownst to me, the rerouting was pointing me directly at NYC--- imagine my surprise when I realized I would be soon navigating the streets of New York!

A small mishap (simple wrong move pointed me east when I should have been heading west on a connecting road!) caused just enough of a delay to put me on the George Washington Bridge at the beginning of rush hour.

(BTW, did you know that a short trip across the Hudson River on the Washington Bridge costs $15?!)

I had begun my trek across PA with what I considered to be plenty of cash (around $100), but multiple Pennsylvania, NJ and NYC tolls put me in a cash poor state and, after the GWBridge, I was praying the remainder of my route was toll-free! (please, dear AppleMaps!)

The Connecticut Cross-county Parkway proved to be a breath of fresh (and un-tolled) air so that driving into Connecticut was like exhaling a

breath.

I mostly stayed in the right lane and folks seemed happy to simply pass me by.

Road Work Reroutings caused some delays and I arrived six-ish to David’s Place in Milford, CT, a lovely and well-appointed Airbnb located on LongIslandSound, looking south.

Sigh.  Such a lovely #homeawayfromhometocomehometo

Sunset was gorgeous... and then?  Full moon rose slowly, mostly shrouded but bursting forth for just a very few minutes in full blazing glory before retreating back behind the billowing clouds.
